]]> Renovated by Imatran Yh-Rakennuttaja Corporation. Emphasis has been put on enhancing the habitability of the premises. On the inside the room divide of the apartments was reconsidered while the exterior was livened up by accentuating the already existing lines and shapes, as well as with the skilled use of color. The yard was redone to increase its functionality.

Emphasis was put on designing the central multifunction room and the buildings’ lighting was enhanced with both natural and artificial light sources. ]]> Gammelbacka in Porvoo was one of the very first objects of regional area renovations in Finland.

Following the lead of Juska Junttila, the architects of Helsingin Studioarkkitehdit architecture office devised the methods and practices to carry out the redevelopment of the area. The project has also been the subject of a book titled Gammelbacka; vauhtia lähiöuudistukseen (Junttila/Klockars, 1996). Junttila worked as the head architect for the pilot project “Peiponrinne” (pictured below and right).
