Gammelbacka in Porvoo was one of the very first objects of regional area renovations in Finland.
Following the lead of Juska Junttila, the architects of Helsingin Studioarkkitehdit architecture office devised the methods and practices to carry out the redevelopment of the area. The project has also been the subject of a book titled Gammelbacka; vauhtia lähiöuudistukseen (Junttila/Klockars, 1996). Junttila worked as the head architect for the pilot project “Peiponrinne” (pictured below and right).
